Social Presence

In the previous parts of this series we covered Website Design, Search Engine Marketing (SEO) and Reputation Marketing. In this post we deal with Social Media Marketing.

social-media-imgCreating a Social Presence or Social Media Marketing has become a significant weapon in optimizing your presence on the Internet and dominating your market online.

If your business is a B2C business, it is essential to have a social presence if you want your business to have credibility online. This means having at least a Google Business page, a Facebook business page and a Twitter business site.

Here are the top 15 most popular Social Networking sites for September 2016 according to eBizMBA

  1. Facebook
  2. Youtube
  3. Twitter
  4. Linkedin
  5. Pinterest
  6. Google+
  7. Tumblr
  8. Instagram
  9. Reddit
  10. VK
  11. Flickr
  12. Vine
  13. Meetup
  14. Ask.fm
  15. Classmates

You will notice that Google+ is only ranked 6th and yet I have recommended it above the others. Quite simply this is because a Google+ Business page is essential if you want to have any presence in Local Search Results. Also, Google Search Results display your review score which is also vitally important in attracting visitors to your site ahead of your competitor’s site. What other sites you choose to have a presence on depends largely on your market.

The purpose of a social presence is to generate social proof so that your prospective customers will feel comfortable about purchasing your products and services.

A business that can boast many followers on the social pages and a five star review score is likely to attract many more buyers than a business that has not considered the importance of these factors. As mentioned in previous blog posts, research by Nielsens revealed that 92% of people trust reviews from a peer and 70% trust a consumer’s opinion posted online. Both Google+ and Facebook provide the ability to post a review, thus contributing towards social proof for your business.

Building a Social presence online takes a lot of effort as it requires a consistent stream of posts to generate and hold interest. This is not something you can do for a couple of months and then stop. If you want your business to get to the forefront of buyers minds and stay there, you need to ensure a regular flow of updates and useful information on your selected social media sites.

Most small to medium sized businesses do not have the resources to keep up this steady flow of information and rely on resources like us to do this for them.
